Brake problem. Advice please.

Post by transglobal » Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:13 pm

Hi Folks,

My Elise has been in my garage for the past 3 months parked up awaiting warmer temps. No hand brake on etc. Went to take her out today and the front wheel were locked solid. I had to rock the car back and forward on the clutch in 1st and reverse gears till eventually they freed themselves. Went for a drive but there was a metal to metal like sound when the brakes were applied and very little bite on them. Pedal almost went to the floor when braking. After a few miles of left foot on the brake and pumping the pedal a bit of feeling and bite returned but not perfect. What's the issue? Is it simply inactivity or is there a problem with the ABS?

Any thoughts?

Stuart.

Brake pads bind on with that sort of inactivity - they all do it. Just need to give the brakes a hard time and they will clean off. In the very worst cases, you may need to skim the discs.

Nowt to worry about.

PS - also moved to technical, where it belongs :)

My rear discs are like that at the mo, rears are taking a while to clean up, need a bit of rough love to beat them back into shape. Sounds aweful but will be ok after a thrashing.
