Windscreen replacement

Hi all.
I'm in the process of trying to get my windscreen replaced by AutoGlass. According to the bloke from AutoGlass that I spoke to on the phone, he can't get a new screen for me right now as the are on back-order with no ETA.
Thing is he was going through MMC to get the screen (although I'm not having the work carried out there), so I'm wondering if I phone the Lotus factory direct, I may get a better answer on when I can expect a screen.
Is this the done thing to just phone up the factory in cases like this?
Anyone have the appropriate number I should call?
Cheers,
D

Get in contact with Geary at Eliseparts - he has a heated screen that he can get fitted through any fitting company:

This sort of thing really p1sses me off! Load of boIIocks! Lotus must have at least a few cars each day coming off the production line, complete with windscreens. They MUST be able to get you one!?!
Shug's suggestion does sound good

I am just on my third replacement from RAC Autowindscreens, after they broke the other two on fitting, or the following day.

Sounds like it could just be a regional shortage caused by tut then

I had one fitted to the VX last week - plenty in stock apparently and IIRC they are the same screen.
Again RAC autowindscreens

I love that our little cars are so rare that it is probably 100% right that Tut has managed to use up all the spares in the area/maybe even country
Mine has a bit of delamination (so i've been told - odd looking white bits at the bottom) another thing on my list of things to do

Dave, let us know who you get to do it and if all goes smoothly. I'll probably have to replace mine to get it through the MOT

S2 screens are currently on back order from Lotus and have been since November. They are currently expecting some in the middle of March.

They are surely the same as a VX though? My local place had a silver surround one in stock and got a black one next day

Middle of March!!!!?
It's just lucky my screen isn't smashed then I guess!
I tried to get this done through Autoglass in Edinburgh but apart from not being able to get a screen, they are refusing to carry out the work anywhere else except Murrays. I wanted it done at SLS. Was gonna get Ali to replace my heater fan resistor pack while the clam was off.
Cheers for the info!

From what Ali tells me, there are the original Lotus screens and a non lotus version that the windscreen places sometimes fit. There's no real difference in the screens tho. Autoglass have been trying to get my one from Lotus according to the bloke at the end of the phone.

That used to bug the crap out of me! I always figured it was sun-bleaching or something.
Put a brick through it! Sorted!
