Post by PhilA » Thu Feb 23, 2006 5:44 pm

lo
will be needing to change me pads soon.

thinking ill go for pagid - only use the car for fun runs and occasional trackdays.

which pagid would u go for?
the rs42 or rs14?

also, where can i get a trolley jack (do i need axle stands too?) and torque wrench?

Si has this - i know ;)
I wanna get stuff too so I can learn and not rely on about 160 quid of labour from a dealer etc... ;)

42s are a road/track pad and supposedly squeal less than 14s.

Machine mart is a good bet for an okay jack. Or Halfrauds. Bear in mind that the Elise is touch & go on the minimum saddle height of most jacks, but you can always drive it onto some wood before jacking up.

I have the yellow jack and axle stand combo from Halfords, 30quid all in and does the job. Also fits under my car (standard S1).

My halfrauds jack just fits under my S1 but on yours I reckon you'd suffer with your ride height. I have read you can take the wheels off the jack, but that sounds dodgy for its stability.

Wood gets my vote!

Axle stands are a must for safety, esp if you are going to be under it! £10 or so from machine mart or halfrauds IIRC.

Halfords professional tools have a lifetime warranty too! Remember though, a torque wrench is for doing up nuts, not for undoing them as you will knacker it PDQ!

Hi Phil

I've got the Halfraud jack for my 111r and its just fits, but you need to be on 100% flat. Shugs suggestion about driving it on to something first is a good one :)

E1587-RS4.2 Price 105.15 + vat

E1682-RS4.2 Price 116.88 + vat

These are the pagid's i've been using and currently hunting for the best price. I'll reply back and see if i can get a SE deal.

:D :D

In steps Stephen..... ;)

As for fitting, I have a jack from machine mart, cost about £30 and is low enough for most elises, 110mm height IIRC. Don't need axle stands for brakes. My torque wrench is a Teng one, as recommended by one of the guys from Wheels Around. You'll also need a 1/2" drive 17mm deep socket (don't get an alloy specific one with a plastic cover, it doesn't fit), long-nose pliers, copper grease and possibly a hammer ;)

You'll also need a couple of screwdrivers to punch the retaining pins out if they won't come out easily.

All explained here:

Always need a hammer...

and a saw

and WD40

and some plasters

and a warm coat & hat

And a torch

And something you don't realise you don't have or can't find until you have the wheels off and can't put them back until you find it! :thumbsup

Get a long reach socket and wrap some pvc tape around it to stop it catching your alloys, but you have an S2 so you will need something to replace you cack spline drive thingy. By the looks of Simons some 17mm bolts wouldn't go a miss whe you get the OE ones out.... :(

I have a low jack but still need to put the car on some bits of wood to get it up enough. I bought axle stands but they are too high. A guy on SELOC suggested using a box filled with paper . Excellent idea totally height variable and does not damage the car body . I wrapped mine in a couple of bags to stop moisture getting in . Good use for all the free papers that come through the door.

Dont forget coppaslip to smear on your parts.

You'll also need a variety of swear words. You'll probably need to start with with the bast**d wheel bolts and see how it goes from there.

I tend to be quietly fuming, I need all my energy to counter the blood loss, I mean how many pointy bits are there hidden under there?!?!?

While you are in the area, all the S1 wheel arch liner bolts are mild steel, now unless Lotarse actually gave a toss and changed to stainless, change them all now before the Rusty monster gets to them and they won't budge when you need them to.

Only a few £ from an online store and worth it later... and grease those parts!

List of S1 bolts: (might be different on S2?)

Hi Guys

Just got this back from Phil @coordsport.com.

We can offer a trade discount of 20% on a group buy.

I would expect to see an order for at least 5 of each part number to qualify for this discount.

This would make the prices.

E1587-RS4.2 £84.12 + vat

E1682-RS4.2 £93.50 + vat

There will be a delivery charge of £9.70 + vat for a car set, or £7.95 + vat for an axle set.

If you think this offer is attractive, please put a post on your forum and we’ll see what the response is.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thoughts?

Can Stephen source these also??
