Which pads?

Guys,
I'm going to get my disks skimmed by Stu and will be replacing my pads also. Currently have green stuff which I am very indifferent about. I know quality costs but I think Pagids are a lot of money and probably wasted on me for the amount of track days I do.
So, thinking of a happy medium, does anyone rate the Mintex 1144's?
Full set is £100.

Everyone seems to want to jump on this anti greenstuff bandwagon. I've only had the std pads on before them and i think the greenstuff are better.
Do you not like them, or is it the forum waffle thats putting you of them?
I've never had any probs late braking on track and staying out for long sessions. I dare say the more expensive pads will be better, and as i said, i've not tried them, but the greenies IMO aren't as bad as everyone makes out. Not great, but for the money they do the job for me.

Ask Yvo about SBS pads. They're meant to be almost as good as Pagids but at about half the price.

BTW, I agree with Gordon about the green stuff. They're not gonna be the best but they're a good price and they're better than the standard pads that I was happy with. I might try something else next but would probably go for the SBS over Pagid if it's a lot cheaper.

Greenstuff are a great pad, for fast road and the occasional trackday. I used them with Stu's discs for a year or so and was very happy with them.
They AREN'T pagids and don't stop you as well as pagids do, but if you've never tried pagids then you won't miss them.
IMHO the pad food chain goes something like this :-
OEM
Greenstuff
Pagid
No point going straight from OEM to Pagid as you won't appreciate them as much as/when your driving develops into them.

PS: Gordon, you would benifit from swapping up to Pagids - I know it's far too much money to pay for a friction material but they are worth it.

I was thinking that. I'm on my 2nd full set of EBC's, so got a year out them. Come to think of it, what a great year it was last season, good close erm.... lapping

Back to the post. I like the no dust idea though

. Spoke to Stu and i think he's gonna give better pads a try too. I remember vagely getting a (rare) shot of Neils car ages ago at Crail and thought his brakes were awesome. But that was when my car was on std susp, pads and toyos.
If the car stays after the house move, i'll have a look into it whese these are worn out.

you havent been using them thats all. A good thrash on track would get rid of that surface rust.
Gordon, rare shot, i presume you mean rare that my car was working??
I rate the pagids, but have tried the greenstuffs aswell. The pagids are more expensive so they last longer. Gareth, for your car, and your level, i would say greenstuff are good enough

Well they are contaminated with some sort of oil.
No idea what it is.
They just look really rusty.
I've been doing some heavy braking and disk is still not cleaning.
Seem to have to brake really hard...maybe it's just me. Need to get Uldis or Ali in the car.

That rear disk might not clean up. You could take it off and give it a going over with emery paper. Worth a try. Stu could skim it could he not?? What did MMc do to your brakes?? Surely they cant have given you the car back like that???

Couldn't you try driving around with the handbrake on a little to try clearing them up?

They skimmed the fronts....rears were left as I told them not to touch them.

Mine look worse than these.
- Jack the car up (properly - axle stands)
- wheels off
- remove pads
- put some 'Gunk' on disks and clean and dry (inside and out)
- start & idle engine
- engage 2nd
- get on your hands and knees with emery paper and remove corrosion
- dust and clean
- refit pads
- smear copper grease on hubs (ONLY ON HUBS)
- refit wheels and hey presto
- go on short run
