Budgie noises coming from my passenger side front wheel.
Budgie noises coming from my passenger side front wheel.
It started a couple of days ago but it started to get louder today. Sounds like a load of budgies are trapped in my wheel arch. Only happens when going over bumps...which is most of the time. Need to use the car quite a bit so need to know if its safe to drive.
Thanks,
Kev.

WD40 is ok for disassembly but no use as a lubricant. The inboard wishbone bushes don't actually rotate (I think), so they shouldn't squeak.
The top damper mounts at the front might benefit from disassembly, cleaning and reassemble with copperslip.
I'm not sure about the bottom ones, but if you strip the dampers out, you might as well do the same thing top and bottom.
If the squeak only happens when one wheel is up and the other is down then I would suspect the anti-roll-bar bushes, though you have the later car which had different bushes IIRC. You can often make the ARB bushes squeak just by turning the steering wheel lock to lock with the handbrake on.
For the ARB cleaning the bushes and then lubricating with something like teflon or just wrapping with PTFE tape.
Finally, as baggy says, if the squeak goes away when you press the brake pedal then it's the brakes not any of the suspension.
Cheers,
Robin

Like robin says
I would think it's more likely to be a ARB bush rather than a suspension bush, unless your running nylatrons the rubber bushes are mounted solid and it's the deformation of the rubber that allows the suspension to move up and down.
WD40 is no use as a lubricant it evaporates it is designed to displace water
Water Displacement 40th attempt (yes I am sad)
If it goes away when the brakes arfe being applied is it something to do with the brakes or the hub ? do you have play in the bearing ?
