Coolant.... & Noises....

Post by Edin430 » Mon Oct 22, 2007 12:43 pm

Okay just got my new (used) car back on the road and it came up with more than sufficient Coolant in it...

This dropped to just below the Min level when cold but was fine when hot.

I topped it up with water, but it has made its way back down to the minimum level again, not below though (yet).

There are some unusual noises coming from behind the dash at low speeds, when slowing down without using the break. Not sure if this could have something to do with the radiator therefore being related problem?

It has the full alloy upgraded radiator from Eliseparts with new hoses in January/February so possible something hasn't been fixed or put back in properly?

I had a look at http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... ht=coolant and spoke to Muj about possible HGF but i dont have any other symptoms apart from the coolent loss..

Trying to get a hold of Ali to get the car booked in for start of the month but any things to look out for in the mean time etc would be much appreciated.

:)

Doesn't sound like you're losing any coolant to me. Stop overfilling it (i.e. past Min when cold) then see what happens :thumbsup

Thats a relief to hear.... It was near Max level when i got it so i thought it had maybe been over filled??

Just with it dropping below the Min level and falling gradually since topped up again i panicked................

I know Ali will sort it out for me but means i'm still going about until he gets the chance to look at it...

It should sit just on or below minimum when cold and rise to around the max level when hot. Only worry when it drops way below minimum or when it disappears altogether :)

^+1 What he said.

Mine does the same. It swallows it without trace, I think it just escapes form the pressure cap.

Replace the cap on spec, they are only £3 from Rover or Landrover.

I'll give landrover a call - anyone have a part number?!

Or do i just ask them for the cap that would fit on the Lotus?

And it was no where near like being too low - just slightly below.

p.s - booked in to see Ali on the 10th so any problems i'm sure he will be able to help!
