MMC brake discs and EBC Green Stuff *NOW WITH DISC PHOTOS*

Ok, I may just be trying to find something else to worry about here
I recently had green stuff pads fitted to my S1, and my mechanic was suprised to find that my brake discs were really lightweight and not rusty.
I assume lightweight and not rusty means they are MMC discs?
I seem to recall reading somewhere that EBC Green Stuff and MMC discs are not a good combination, am I right / what pads should I have bought.
I've not done many miles with the EBCs on (probably less than 50)
Also, how many miles would you expect a set of MMC discs to last? My car has 50odd thousand miles on it and I seem to recall replacing Mini discs in quite a bit less than that.
Go gently guys, I'm having a bad day...

MMC pads on MMC discs
yvo or elise parts sell the pads.
you might have fooked the disks, I don't know, you might be ok, you'll have to look and see.
either way, I wouldn't drive on them.
Take them to bits, assess, either buy set of steel discs to suit greenstuffs or if MMC discs are ok just source the correct pads.
MMCs in theory should last you a good while because the pad material deposits it's self onto the disc.
also I saw on seloc that if you find a machine shop that has diamond tooling, you can get them skimmed..
This is all 2nd hand info cos I've only had steel discs on my car.
Tut will be along shortly to tell you all about it/ offer to take your MMcs off your hands for you...

Oh dear!
Get them off asap!
I 'might' have some old pads you can use until the new pads get delivered

Skimming shouldn't be to much trouble esp with diamond tooling, but beware tips are expensive £100 each last time I bought them and the firm keeps a very close eye on them as a result.

I'm pretty sure stu160 does skimming here.
Drop him a PM if you need it done

I'm in Dundee.
I'm using another car at the moment so i'll leave it parked up for now.
I kept the old front pads as they weren't too worn, so I can put them back on. Is these an easy way I can tell if they are proper MMC pads though?
I'll get some decent photos up probably tomorrow evening if I have a moment, and hopefully someone on here can tell me their thoughs, the discs don't look to bad to me, but hey, I'm the guy that put the wrong pads on so what do I know!

You might be able to get the part code off the back of the pads...
To tell if they are mmc discs you can use a magnet on them.

If the part number is still on the back of the pad, jot it down and I will compare it to my collection.
They differ depending on the source of the pads. You will have probably got away without damaging the disks if you only did 50 miles and reasonable braking.

Eeek! Take those pads off asap!
Since its my old car, I know that they are MMC discs and pads on there. I fitted new front pads shortly before selling it.
The discs never wear, only the pads.
You can get new pads from eliseparts.com

thanks! I realised the fronts were pretty new as I kept them. When I realised they were MMC discs, I was concerned that Autoecosse had maybe changed the fronts for the MOT (they put a fresh MOT on it for me, and it did fail on a couple of things).
The car is also parked up in my mums driveway - and will stay there until I have pads and move it to my mechanic for fitting.
Disc photos to follow this evening hopefully. It seems i'm learning Lotus the hard way!

Pads are easy, do them yourself!

Last thing I attempted was ball joints on my mini, after about 4 hours working at them, and 2 broken splitter tools, I was sticking it all back together and booking it in somewhere.
Tbh, i'd happily do them myself, but brakes are one of those live saving things that i'm not sure I want to skimp on. That said, I suppose pretty much everything on a car has a safety / f-up cost related to ut, and i've happily changed shocks, radiators, alternators and starters, and umm wheels before. Maybe now is the time for brake pads...

Brake pads are only a couple of steps beyong getting the wheels off, as long as you put it all back together
