Alarm problem S1 (cobra)

Hi,
My son tried to move my elise but had a problem with the alarm, and in the end had to use the override thingy to disarm it.
The problem I have now is that the alarm does not alarm/disarm with the key fobs and I suspect that he has wiped the codes.
I have followed the manual on how to recode them but have not managed to recode them. the procedure does not complete as when is states the the alarm light should flash for one second, it just stays on.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix the problem?

Hi,
Not yet because both of the key fobs are not working, but I was going to try changing the batteries to see if it made any difference.
The key fobs are showing the red light when they are pressed.

Hi,
Changed the batteries and tried to reprogramme the fobs but that did not work and still have to use the over ride to get the alarn disarmed and the engine started.
I manage to pick up another Cobra alarm module and changed it over, reprogrammed the key fobs and the alarm arms and disarms as it should but I can't get the engine to turn overover.
Do I need to have the alarm module programmed to the ECU? and who can do this? Can I get the original alarm module repaired?
Thanks
IanK

They are code matched - google code match MEMS and lucas 5AS and you'll find some people who can do it, assuming it's the 5AS you have changed?

Hi Robin,
The unit I replaced was the Cobra one located behind the dash just along to the left of the radio and I thought that the 5AS was something different? Is that not located at the rear of the car behind the engine?
The car is a 2000 model if this helps.

Yes, so if you haven't replaced the 5AS (behind the instrument panel) then you don't need to do anything to code-match the ECU. The bad news is that I don't know if the 5AS and cobra are similarly code matched - there is no information in the manual about this as far as I can tell. It sounds like the 5AS isn't seeing your request to disarm the immobiliser, probably because it's looking for a code from the cobra, and the cobra is sending a different code.
It might make sense to whack back the original cobra and call the lotus factory to ask for some help on getting it all working again - it sounds like it sort of works in that you can get some way through the rekey procedure, so it might well just be a missing step or badly documented procedure.
Cheers,
Robin
