Running rough...sometimes

Post by ABZ-Elise » Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:22 am

I've covered about 300 miles since I got my S1. Today it started acting up. Sometimes it seems flat, lacks power and even the exhaust note changes. Sometimes it will sort its self out other times I have to stop and let it cool down.

Any ideas what it could be?? sticky throttle body?? head gasket??

Sometimes the catalytic converters collapse and break up; the chunks can then randomly block up the exhaust pipe and cause the engine to lack power.

Usually the chunks rattle around on idle when this happens.

Cheers,
Robin

Kev

From your user name I presume that you are in Aberdeen. There are quite a few of us in the area, myself and Craig are in/near Old Deer, so if you would like to take a run up here, we could probably help you out.

Don't think its the cat. Only seems to be when I'm driving around town hasn't happened out on the open road yet.

Tut, that would be spot on! I really want another elise driver to maybe take my car for a quick spin an compare it with there own...see if there is maybe anything else up with it.

I need this car to be reliable as possible. It is my every day driver :?

Check the idle air control valve is not gummed up. Needs a Torx and some brake clean.
