Sick 'K' needs help...
Actually not as easy as you would like. The immob function has several parts on the S1 - there is the easy to bypass fuel and crank relay and then there is the MEMS; the MEMS won't run the sparks or fuelling until it has seen the code from the Lucas unit up front. To make a MEMS learn a new code (because you replaced MEMS or Lucas unit) you need to rematch it using the Lotus scan tool or the Rover equivalent.
But, Shug is obviously right w.r.t. Emerald - if you have one and your fob you can just bung it in, and make it work by either configuring to disable immob or enable immob and learn code.
So you coudl steal an S1 by slapping in a stock-configuration emerald and bypassing the immob relay quite easily.
Cheers,
Robin

these folk do a mems bypass as well as matching mems to 5as
maybe handy if you go for a s/h mems
look under prices then mg/rover
Neat gadget - would be easy enough to make one that tries each of the codes in turn and then flicks the starter to see if the engine will run - that way you could code match the fake 5AS to the MEMS you have rather than the opposite!hiscot wrote:

So, i've inherited this problem now
I am a bit further on already by the fitting of a second-hand MEMS. The car will now turn over and run for a couple of seconds, even allowing a wee blip of throttle. Then it cuts out. If I try immediately to restart, no joy - but by allowing the alarm to re-arm, then disarming with the keyfob, it will run briefly again... I tried this four time just to make sure and this procedure works every time.
There is no smell of petrol from the exhausts so I am surmising that it is as described previously and I need one of the Avon gizmos or a local Rover dealer (find one of those these days
) to reprogramme to suit my immobiliser....
Any additional advice would be welcome and i'll keep you posted as to what happens....

Excellent - could be well on the way to having this sorted
Avon also seem to offer a service where by you send them your MEMS and they re-code it for £25... If I can ever get an answer out of them re the £35 gizmo, this re-code option may be easier as I am not in desperate need to have the car running..
Thanks
