Thats a whole different discussion.. it may sound daft and its probably just me, but with track days I always feel as if I should be out on track using the time I have paid for rather than standing around chatting. Its always "Ive got to go, get another dozen laps in before it rains" and you never really get to mingle and chat. All the socialising I get with SE in online because I'm away a lot.tut wrote:Understood John, met a lot of good guys in 2005 when I was sprinting and hill climbing and made quite a few friends, but nothing compared to my friends on S_E.
Understand what you are saying regarding the difference between the social side of competing and tracking, I did both so had the best of both worlds, for me what it is all about.

Now that is an excellent idea..tut wrote:Mike, do not believe for a minute that you can not drive quickly, but I do have more experience on the Sprinting side, so if you have a competitive car we could always double enter and have a go at the Bremner.

Re: Plan B.. lets take our time and tick all the boxes
Actually John I had forgotten about that. Because you are on track for a few minutes in the day, you do get a chance to talk to all the other drivers and look over their cars.
The all day LOT trackday was the first time that I remember standing around and chatting as opposed to being out on track all the time. Main reason was that Jamie and Clare got their hands on the car so I had no option.

Yep, we had a 4 hour track day a few years ago that was great for the social side, no pressure to get out and cram the laps in, the all day session at Donny was the same.tut wrote:Actually John I had forgotten about that. I wish I'd kept my mouth shut re supercharger!
For what it's worth, I agree with John about the social side of speed events. It took me a year or two to get to know folk but the banter is second to none.
I'm also seriously addicted to the clock. I can't go back to track days - I get no buzz unless I see the time. I've lost count of the number of runs I've done at Kames but I can remember my fastest run like it was 10 minutes ago. If only I could replicate it - just one more time.......
Can't wait to get the VX to a sprint but I need to do a wee bit of work on it first so it might not make an appearance this year. But that's for another thread............
John - I reckon you could compete with the top runners and you should never write off a championship trophy. I won A8 in the Lowland Championship last year because the Graeme and Jennifer didn't do enough events. I know its not worth diddly squat but I could hear the gnashing of teeth in Wick when I was collecting the trophy.
Alistair in the TVR is on course to win the whole Lowland Championship this year because of the scoring system. You won at Kames when Graeme broke his driveshaft. These things happen and part of the game is being there and getting a good timed run in to make it count. I once won the class (beating an Elise S2) because I got a time in before the rain came and everyone else got wet! I beat several caterhams at Harewood last week because it was so wet. What I'm saying is you don't need to have the out and out on the edge car to win - you just need to be in the ballpark, be consistent and be able to capitalise on opportunities. Of course, mostly its easier just to have the supercharger.........

Re: Plan B.. lets take our time and tick all the boxes
Would love to mate, but work commitments means I miss all of them, which is a real bugger.. almost managed Golspie but I have a "compulsory attendance" fire team course the week before and stag night on the Friday. So thats out. The rest I am away for.fd wrote:Pfffff . . . get all you r a$$es up to the september Golspie and Boyndie this year . . . all this keyboard warrior stuff is one thing . . . being there is what it's all about . . . why not run at Doune if you really want a buzz . . . once you have done it all the sprinting pi$h will seem so very tame . . . apart, perhaps, for East Fortune . . . which we may never see again . . .
