I see what they have done, is it pipe 1 or 2 you are referring to? I would just chop it out of the metal pipe you are removing TBH, and use jubilee clips in place of those nasty metal clips. The pressure in the coolant system is only a few PSI if the clips are tight it'll stay put well enough.

I liberated it from the engine bay of a Rover 214 that was lying about at Hambos.

Baggy, just be careful with the clips as there won't be beading and the pipes look quite short. The pipe is quite thick so crank the clips down hard.

Copy that....

Bought the kit about 6 months ago & am finally going to have a go at it over the next few evenings hopefully.....

Just need to wire some lights up in the garage & buy some antifreeze.

Car needs to be up and running by monday a.m. so realistically will have 3 off 2 hour hits at it on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings.

Chances of driving into work on Monday morning????????????????

Place your bets now......

Anyone in the Aberdeen area who also has no social life but is allowed out after the kids are in bed who fancies a bit of a social (or wants to point and laugh) more than welcome.....

do you have a boot bag or boot box? Will make getting to the thermostat alot easier if you take the partition out. Be prepared with a drill and some replacement nuts and bolts though...

Doable. I did it in about 3 hours during the engine swap (inc. working out how the water/oil cooler would fit in there), but obviously it's a little easier without the fookin engine in place ;)

Engine swap thread here for inspiration/pics of install....

Halfway down the page is the photo with no engine in the way.

Yep I read the engine swap with interest at the time.
will start with trays & both arch liners (RHS for access to thermostat & LHS to do gearbox mount)

car is a 99 111s so has boot box. :( ..not sure if VVC complicates it more than that at all.

I haven't looked at what height the coolant rail goes accross the bulkhead so will have to have a look.

I am concious of not wanting to damage the heat insulation on the bulkhead...

If it all looks too tight I might poof out......

I'm only doing it now cos the car needs a coolant change.... It's done 55K ok & although I know the PRRT is a worthwhile mod I don't want to compromise what so far has been pretty reliable....runs off to touch wood.

Any way will keep you posted...

If there's no cooler in there, then no. BTW, it will be the mutha of all pains to get at the old stat with the VVC plenum in - I'd be tempted to take it off....

Yes....am not looking fwd to that....

Will try to do it in situ first....(it must be possible to change the fecking thermostat without taking the plennium off........) Perhaps not...

The water jacket extends into the plenium doesn't it? Will cross that bridge if I get there.....

Sure it's possible, but I can't see how, without double jointed arms and an endoscope. I didn't fancy it with the DTHTBs on, and that was with a big hole cut in the boot. Still, a little lateral thinking and some experience would go a long way (PM Dan, maybe?)
