Think Dave's stuck half in, half out of a set of biking leathers somewhere just now.

Original engine in the car died at around 30k miles. Liners sunk. So a minty S2 engine was obtained which had around 25k miles on it at the time. We used the bottom end from that and put a replacement head on it, which had been lightly breathed upon and had some slightly fruitier cams in it.... So that would be why the head was off it.
A bit late to this party but feel the need to question this part. I thought it was standard :?

Haven't actually done anything further with it at this point. :oops:

Current thinking is to source another engine and drop it straight in, then have a play with the current engine by taking it apart and rebuilding it.. and maybe even learning something along the way!

Only question then is, do I drop in a standard unit for cheapness and ease or do I try and find something like a 160 VVC one or A. N. Other that's a bit fruitier than a standard one ....

Or do I just drop it into a professional, throw them the keys, shout "fix that will you!" and then bend over....

And the correct answer is........

<drumroll>

I broke a piston!!!

Big chunk out of one above the compression ring it would seem.

Clearly I gave it one donkey punch too many... rough love ftw!!!

So.... drawing board out and options now being considered.

That was my thought on what had happend to it back in France ;-)

Stick with the K, plenty of second hand engines around for sub £500....
