Could it be the chap on here who had decided the 240 was too quick for him and did the right thing?

Would be a helluva car.... When you stripped out all of the old boat anchors they seem to hide under th bodywork!

Shug

is it a big PITA to remove and clean out the throttle body, and MAF sensor etc?

Thinking that this might be on the cards sooner rather than later :(

MMC want to put the standard air filter back on today (FFS) as lotus are insisting this is done before they start the trouble shooting process :( :( :( :(

I have no idea on the Yota. Wouldn't assume so, but depends how much of a PITA things like bolt are to get at and what sort of heads they have?

The actual job when you got all the bits off would be easy enough. Can of carb cleaner and some rags.

By the looks of the ECU they use for the Toyota engine car is actually the same one they use for the S2 K16/VVC engines. It's Lotus's own ECU. Of course it has a different program for the Toyota and perhaps some different I/O configurations for the various different sensors, but I suspect that Lotus designed the ECU for GM and then used it for their own cars too, hence it will have support for all the common sensor variants anyway - after all, how hard is it - if Karl and Dave (well just Karl, really) can do it you would think Lotus could :-)

Cheers,
Robin

The MIL light has been off for at least 27 hours!

Missing the cobra living in the boot though (induction kit) as the standard btard is back on to try and narrow down the problems.....

Might be a silly idea but how dirty was your induction kit?
Could it have been the engine simply wasnt getting enough air??

Satan once again :puke in my sodding kettle!

Just been on the phone to MMC, who said the factory were convinced that moving me back to the standard airbox would solve the problem once and for all...........

Starting to miss trackdays, and not looking forward to doing any of them if I have 5 laps, and then all of a sudden safety mode...have been lucky a few times now that I've kept in on the track  :D

Resetting the ECU is relatively time consuming andf my last visit to KH saw me spend more time in the pits than I had in the rest of the year put together

Can I be about to set the record for visiting MMC. This will be trip number 6 in a 3/4 week spell...........

p.s. My car in back in next week anyway, so be sure to expect awesome weather while its in the garage! :(

Next episode:

MMC called this morning, the error code is for high idle speed - same as before. Lotus say it's the evil induction kit. ECO is a 'stage3' and is not reprogrammable apparently, the newer ones are. They suggested that we move back to the original induction unit since 'that had cured another customer with the same problem......'. I've asked them to leave it for now - since it didn't seem to clear the problem. Claim is that the few units this happens with are all used on track and experience high end revving a lot. So I'll clean the bugger and see if that is in fact one of the issues - hasn't been cleaned in a year.

Meanwhile Andy back over to you...

HI Colin

Thats the same chat they gave me and it lasted for 36 hours, and i have the standard box back on!

The ECU chat was brought on by me asking them if it was possible, and they in turn asked the factory. What a load of nonsense, surely it has to be reporgrammable?

Bill is phoning them again this morning to see what they suggest next. It was highly unlikely to be the induction kit anyway, but now it remains to be seen what they suggest.

Don't know about yourself, but i'm starting to have my patience tested a touch, although Bill could not be more helpful.

Did have one good laugh yesterday though when andrew called to tell me what they had done to my car and that it was ready for collection.....you could have heard a pin drop when i told him that i picked it up on Tuesday night
