Before everybody gets to excited, about half way through the clip you can here the engine drop in revs, this was it starting to seize. Hopefully stopped before it has caused to much damage. Once we get it out and have a look a whats going on I will post up more.

REEEESULT!

Even sounds like it idles.

I see you have a Janspeed on it...cheap n cheerful and is that also the way to get the best out of all the other work you have put into the motor? Or is it just a stopgap!

Foooook, I hope it's all OK? what would cause it to seize with good oil pressure?

Great to hear it start up Mike, but not so great if it suffered oil starvation straight away, assuming that is what caused the seizing up.

Not oil starvation, had 85psi oil pressure. Will see once it's stripped, hopefully tomorrow.

Surprisingly enough..........no. It happens especially when starting a new engine. Oddly this is the one I have taken the most care with, normally just throw them together and fire them up. Did happen once before with a bike engine but this is the first car engine to go south.

As they say sh!t happens..................

Unlucky Mike!

Could it just be that the tolerances are a bit tight and when it starts to heat up it seizes. Does it still turn over freely when cold? Someone once told me that if you're using forged pistons you have to hone the bores out a little for that reason...don't know if they were speaking sh!te or not but you never know.

You know what Kev, that's one thing I never checked. Piston ring gap was cool but never checked the piston to bore clearance. Who knows, guess we will find out tomorrow. Just back in after stripping everything off so engine out in the morning and pull it apart. Problem now is time is tight for the start of the season so may have to kick plan B in action. If I can get all the parts together might see if RG has time to build it while I am offshore. which will only knock me back a couple of days not weeks. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Number 4 big end, picture speaks a thousand words............

Not sure why but will find out. If anyone has any ideas you know what to do. One thing it could be is the cheap ass steel rods I bought, £275 as apposed to everybody else charging 600+. So will be calling Arrow in the morning for rods QED for bearings, gaskets timing belt etc. Was odd though as when I checked the bearing clearances they were all the same.

Image

This is number 5 main bearing in the bearing ladder and it's my fault. When I checked the clearance it was at the very limit of a blue main bearing so I changed it to a red, which are thicker, and has made it a bit tight as the block side shell is fine. No damage to the crank so all is not lost.

Hmm.

Before throwing money at it, it would be well worth asking DVA, QED, etc., about what they think has gone wrong.

Are you sure that your crank is straight?

Cheers,

I certainly hope so, the last thing that we want in S_E is a bent crank let loose.
