Nope, the spring stops them rattling or squealing, the pads are not withdrawn from the disc at all they ride it all the time as the piston only pushes not pulls IYSWIM.

You have checked the disks for damage? Especially if they are dimpled/cross drilled?

MMCs and check the outer surface last night and all nice and smooth and no signs of corrosion or scratching.

Inner surface? How about splash guards, are they clear of the disc? They did do up the bolts in the hubs properly? One of them is a left hand thread!

All look and feels okay, splash guard in place. Noticed the fecking damper leaking though, FFS only 2.5 yrs old S2 kit.
Brake fooked, damper fooked, alarm fooked and radiator fooked. Joy.

Are you sure the damper is leaking? It could be over enthusiastic greasing from your last service...

Jack up the car and spin the wheel see if you can replicate the noise or if there is any play in the bearings/ball joints. I know they are new bearings but that will eliminate them.

BTW your wheels are cossoded too :(

Sanjoy,

In the second last picture, I think we're looking at the inside face of the front disk? I assume that's the splash guard and not the disk surface? It's f*cked if it's the disk surface :-)

Cannot tell much about state of brakes from those photos; TBH, you should remove front wheels, remove front calipers, disks will just fall off - that will allow complete inspection of them.

Cheers,
Robin

Mine doesn't it's about 10mm too tall. Go and see your local timber year adn ask for some offcuts of worktop, 30mm thick, perfect.

It'll fit under the Exige because of the higher ride height, assuming you lowered when you fitted S2 suspension you'll need blocks of wood.
Machine Mart do a jack that goes to 110mm for about £30, does the job nicely :thumbsup

Hada friend that knows oily things take a look and he is happy that it is the brake pad tapping off the disk.
He thinks it could be the retaining spring not doing its job.

Might pop over to his today to borrow his jack and get the wheels off the fton to compare.

Finally got the wheel off to have a look, evils of having a second car, lotus issues take a back seat.

Looked like the plate that puts pressure on the pads was catchign on the caliper. Shaved that and put it back on and it was in full contact with pads.

Test drive and all okay, to be honest the noise was hardly there when driving to Edgars to do the work.

Drive home after helping Ed with his +2 door hinges and yup the noise has come back.

Spoke to Dan @ Judes who was ever helpful AND on a Saturday while working but to no avail.

Thoughts ? Car will prob be at the autotest tomorrow but just realised I am out of road tax (again) and MOT (again).
