There is no mention of a shearing bolt not being covered in the booklet, been through it with a fine tooth comb. They tried it on with me when the wheel hub spline sheared, which is basically a bolt, but they had no joy. They had to cover a new hub, wheel bearing, CV joint and brake disc.

You pay the premium for the cover, don't let them wriggle out of it, go up the chain. Just renewed my cover at £258 but they managed to take out £369 from my CC, so another little conversation tomorrow. The last one resulted in them upgrading me to Stay Mobile as compensation.

Bolts are apparently covered under 'un-insured parts'.

I'm not letting this one drop without a fight .... So far they've refunded my Relay cost.... But the claims folk are being utter c***s.

Either bolts are actually listed as uninsured parts or they aren't. They cannot just say they won't cover them without putting it in the policy wording (or they would have to have another catch all term like "fasteners").

Cheers,

They told me that brake discs are not covered. Understand that for wear but mine was knackered from the spline shearing.

Still no joy so sent them an invoice from a few years ago where they had covered me for a damaged disc.

Massive thanks to woody for getting me going.

On the way there tonight the alternator fell off, killed the belt and I lost the bolt that goes through the top (I hope it didn't hit the bently behind me ) the bolt into the block had fallen out as well.

I've had this. Exactly the same failure and had the same argument with them (AA). This was several years ago before I Honda'd it but when I was in Engerland so probably about seven years ago. I used the same argument Robin mentions above in as much that they didn't specifically mention bolts not being covered nor used any words that could ever be considered a catch all like fittings or fasteners. I also pointed that they list, quite specifically, what they don't cover so given that was the case why didn't they use the word bolt or fastener to make it clear they weren't covered.

It did require me to write a formal letter of complaint to their complaints dept as I was getting nowhere with the claims department. I simply asked them to show me the specific wording in their policy document that excluded bolts. Moreover I also asked them to define what they meant by the term 'all parts' since this precedes every major system they cover e.g. The Engine. All parts are covered other than exhaust systems. Same with the electrical system - all parts covered excluding a number of things like various motors, bulbs etc. but no mention of bolts.

They also had an issue with the service intervals not matching the published service intervals until I pointed out that it had actually been serviced more frequently than the published service intervals but I had to prove this with receipts etc which was easy enough to do.

They did pay out for it in the end but it took a while.
