I hear what you're saying re. the ducting, but Robin assured me (as he ripped it off !) that it made no discernable difference .
Could be an interesting idea to try out on the Rolling Road day, difference in power output from a coolflow with ducting and coolflow without (Both being tried on one car of course, as you're running a different engine to me

)

I doubt that the engine bay would get up to full temp on the dyno. All I know is it is at least 40 deg in the boot after a hard run... that cant be good for the air density.
I have managed to get it reasonably well sealed around the inlet on the side. There is an adaptor peice you can get from Lotus that turns the oval bit into a round bit but thats bound to cost stupid money.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Yeah - what Robin's saying is true - power really shouldn't take a hit until the engine bay temps are high (like in the recent heatwave, running in traffic) I'd stick it on though....
I was getting intake temps
well over 50 deg C (on the air temp sensor in my airbox) and my filter is just inside the wheelarch, behind the intake - linked bit big hose to the airbox... Was enough for my fuel map to start backing off the timing a bit...

well, if that's the case, I'll be trying to get hold of the ducting that Lotus originally specced ( kinda robust paper coiled with wire) rather than that tumble-dryer stuff, the rattle did my box in!
Interesting to hear the different points of view; the small part of my brain that sometimes recognises logic did make me lean towards your point of view John.

That's the stuff I've got. It's okay, but the wire has a habit of trying to break free from the ends (it doesn't actually want to stay as tightly coiled as it is inside the pipe) Also, make sure it's not touching anything, as it takes no time at all for the wire to rub through the pipe if it's catching.

The bigger the better, the std Lotus stuff is no good, for one its too small and the ribs restrict the airflow by causing turbulance inside the hose. The metal stuff doesnt have ribs that impinge into the airflow as much. Just tie it in properly and it wont rattle. Use good quality duct tape at the scoop to seal it in, a couple of tye wraps round the roll bar support and your sorted.

good advice, but I forgot to say that it got mashed in the removal process!
Apologies for the massive drift (I have a habit of these

), but I've found a site that you can spec whatever diameter you like, and its plastic
http://www.ralco-tubings.co.uk/hoses/du ... em-41.html
might give it a go, once I find a natty colour

That stuff looks ok, no sharp edges to the inside of the hose.
If your ordering some, if its cheap enough, get enough for a few cars. I am sure there are planty on here that would take some off your hands for beer money.
edit: just noticed its a 10meter std length.. you could shift that on flea bay.. ready cut

I made myself up a "coolflow" induction kit.
£20 for the filter from motorworld, £19 for the hose from eliseparts, and £8 for the aluminium ducting from screwfix. - problem is that a few thousand miles down the line my aluminium ducting is falling apart, it's sheared and now held in place with duct-tape!
so if anyone has any decent plastic stuff about - let me know, I need some!

If anyone knows the diameter of the standard 'coolflow' intake part of the system, I'll order up some of this ducting stuff from w*rk today.
