Yet another encyclopaedic thread on how to acquire and care for an S1 - epic!

One or two others here have actively competed S1s in hillclimbs, sprints or the LoT series - Mikie, Andy G, McKean - so might be worth targeting them for opinions too. But Robin has been official or acting Chief Engineer for at least a couple of 'em so he has probably told you more than they can remember in any case!

I guess anyone looking at competing any car on the "club circuit" is going to have a reasonable level of skill or confidence in self-maintaining, in which case an S1 is not an impossible proposition - the main area of concern is probably the obsolescence of a couple of key suspension type parts as Robin has pointed out. Find a way to get or make a stock of those and you could be on to a winner.

Alternatively, there is maybe a reason there are so many Se7ens involved in this sector... ;-)

Keep us up to date on progress?

Campbell

PS - Robin has increasinbly become unofficial Chief Engineer for my now-92k mile S1, which has had an active but generally non-abusive life...so he has also seen what happens to S1s that are not tracked to death too, and some of the issues listed are common to all I think. C'est la vie...

Dom - yeah that's the one...

Anyone here a corrosion expert on S1's ???

Do these look OK?

Is it the bonding agent that corrodes? I am not mechanically inept (honest!) but really dont know much about these Alloy tubs. Are they extruded and bonded? Is the problem with the bonding agent/glue?

Any info gratefully recieved as I really like the car. :)

That corrosion is very light compared to what many of us had.

Most of it looks like scuffs/abrasions.

Cheers Guys :)

Is it the Alloy that corrodes then? or the bonding agent?

AFAIK it's the alloy. The bonding agent should be good for years.... (although I do have a vague recollection of hearing that it may well go off after 20 years... Image )
