How about drilling 2 holes further up (where it starts going tubular) & bolting a brace/strap along the flatter edge, to give it a bit more strength?

Not a bad idea ! lose 2 inches on the handle but that could be ok ... im short

I'm 45 minutes up the road from you bring it up and i will weld it back together its an easy fix.

If you feel adventurous you can even have a shot at welding

Which is where i end up spending ages blowing holes in it

Ah doh ! Thanks very much for the offer much appreciated , just spotted this post Monday morning , unfortunelty over the weekend i remove the "ok" end, took a hammer and flattened the tube , started to punch a first rudimentary hole. Still a work in progress but almost there. Thanks for the suggestions / help everyone.
