Jolly good Shug.

Lovely feeling when it turns out to be something simple as opposed to a strip down.

Nah - almost certainly me dicking about with it to show full travel, so we could see if the linkage was possible...

Also folks - there is no way to get a decent top-pull linkage in there with the VVC mech still in place - no clearance at all. Back to the offset pull and buy a spare throttle cable for when it does let go :thumbsup

All sorted then. Is the car at Troon or Ayr? :drive

No but you can go under the throttle bodies ah la jenvey. If you want I post a picture so you can copy. For the record it's expensive to buy but works beautifully.

Yup, but I'm not keen on hiding it down there, given that I have the later boot-box and it's just cut around the airbox - access under the airbox is non-existent without taking it off. Just going to keep as is - balancing serviceability with the additional wear it gets.

Okay, mentioned that it's still got a little misfire under load when I drove it to the MOT station.

New leads and plugs haven't cured it, so probably coil. Kinda hoping my helpful father hasn't dumped the old leads so I can check that it's not a duff new lead.

Quick question though - revving in neutral, light throttle past 1.5K, misfires every time, above that fine. Not just a cough, but a full on chop - will keep running and will be fine if you can get it past 1.5K RPM. Still sound like a duff coil? Nothing else it could be before I spunk more money on a new coil?

Are you using closed loop at that point?

I would think a coil failure at 1.5K RPM only is quite unlikely.

Perhaps there has been a small change in one of the sensors that is causing the emerald to lookup a value from a previously unused cell in one of the many "tweaking" tables.

Suggest you use the live data page to look at actual ignition advance and fuelling figures when held at the lowest RPM above 1.5K where it doesn't misfire; then hold it at 1.5K where it does misfire and see if there is any substantial change in timing or fuelling.

Cheers,
Robin

Robin - genius as always.

Hooked up the laptop at the weekend - the bugger wouldn't even start, so I re-uploaded the map and hey presto - ran like a beauty! Subesquently had a natter with Stu when picking stuff up from him and he's had the emerald just 'lose' cells before as well.

Moral of the story for Emerald users is always to keep an up-to-date backup of your map..

Will keep that in mind. Going to be asking a few questions about these little buggers in the near future. Glad you got it sorted mate.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Yes, the ability to transfer partial maps and engine configurations seems to be a feature of the product. No doubt if you have a good ritual for the transfer process and you are religious about keeping your ECU map and configuration backups in nice time ordered sequentially numbered files, you probably won't get hurt too often. Take a casual approach to uploading/modifying/downloading maps and sooner or later you'll reach this point (Shug, you're about the 10th person I've known to have had weird issues like this!!).

For some reason, I've always saved whatever changes I made in a dated file - have dozens of maps going back years.

Certainly one of my better habits it seems. :thumbsup
