Dash off is pretty easy. As is losing the screws to put it back together again :roll: :lol:

Mine has a nice central hole below the heater controls to take a feed through (3rd pic).

Cheers for the photos, very helpful!
Ended up buying an alpine cde-104bti, iPhone compatible, built in Bluetooth, USB and mini jack on the front - ideal, so much better than their new top of the range which has the TFT screen. £190 off the net. Though typically I couldn't be at home today to sign for it! Ha!
I'll let you know how badly the installation goes...

i was in Murrays having my downpipe replaced and decided to bring in the radio kit i had bought a few weeks back that i planned to personally fit, but times are busy so i thought id see how much theyd charge to do it for me - involving fitting the radio, cable for iphone and mic for phone calls also.

Quote: £161 - feck that i said and did it myself this morning, took me best part of 1.75 hours (yes i timed myself), and initially i faffed about and wasted time undoing parts of the dash that didnt need to, i only had to take off 2 parts;

1) the panel below the steering wheel
2) with that removed i could access a screw holding the thing that has the twiddly heating knobs, took that off and presented me a nice hole to drop the 2 cables down to where i wanted them.

having never done anything like this before IN MY LIFE and wasting time undoing other bits of dash etc i couldve have easily done this job in 60mins, probably less for an actual mechanic.

so tell me this folks, where did they pluck £161 from? somewhere dark and smelly? that is near the cost of the feckin unit itself!

I think you answered your own question - it took you almost two hours - the main dealer will charge circa £80 in labour.

Any advice on upgrade? And is fittig iPod cable straightforward?
Cheers

yes, but the job could be done in under an hour. is it normal for it to be over-estimated like that?

there will be a booked time for the job - that way you pay the same no matter how long it takes (when I worked in the motortrade some guys could service 3 cars in the booked time for 1 and others struggled to do it in the alloted time.

Yup for dealers the manufacturer tells them the time it should take they will have a book or more probably some software that tells them everything they need parts, time etc for every job and they base there charges on that.
