Believe it or not, I seem to remember reading there is a sequence with the S2 where the door has to be open (I don't think you have to shut it as part of the procedure though...)

You do need to open the drivers door, for the reason I mentioned above. There's a switch on the door that turns the interior light on, it's also connected to the ECU.

The ECU works everything in the engine from the Throttle Position Sensor to IACV with inputs from the MAP sensor and the O2 sensors.

The S2 are "self learning" where as the S1 isn't.

When you do the reset - you must leave the engine to warm up on it's own (best to do it when it's cold) don't be tempted to jump in and assist with the throttle or it will always require that assistance, similarly if it sounds like it's going to stall - leave it, it should kick in the anti-stall and pick up the revs if it doesn't and it stalls just re-start the engine without pedal assistance.

Now this is important! When the car is up to temp and the revs have settled down, take it for a good hard run - the ecu recalls the setting at all the throttle positions after a reset so if you drive like a granny then the car will basically run like a grannies car and when you want to thrash won't re-act quite so quickly.

I hope it does start when I do it hahaha! So drivers door open electrics on and the stack unit does its wee mad thing then depress fully the throttle 5 times at least. Then electrics back off - then turn on and start engine and leave until full temperature. Then take it a hard drive somewhere?

May I suggest returning the car to the chap you bought it from, asking for your money back, and leaving a small dog turd under the lining of the boot?

I don't think I've heard anyone have so many problems in their first month of ownership, except maybe Dezzy with his 111R, but that was more quality control stuff on a nearly new elise.
