The MOT station I used the first time were super strict.

Car must be supplied with undertrays removed.
Number plates must be black on yellow or white (carbon was illegal) they chose to ignore the sept 2001 issue.
My windscreen sticker exige.com was deemed illegal - obscured area A and also the wiper failed to clear area A (due to sticker). The fact it helps in low sun was ignored.

Fortunately my local station were a bit more sympathetic and passed the car once I'd shown them how to jack it up.

Thought that law had been around since 2001? When I got replacement plates for my Clio172 I had to get all that stuff on them :? ... .. has it taken this long for the MOT to catch up? :?

There are quite a few funny laws about number plates.

Imports are aloud to run without front number plates, as long as a front number plare would effect the performance of the car. And I'm pretty sure you are aloud motor bike number plate size lettering on imports...could just be jap imports tho.

And if you want black number plates, register your car in the isle of man then bring it back.

Does it matter if you carry the front plate in the boot?

Got a short plate with standard size letters(ish), doubt an MOT tester is going to dig out a tape measure to check. i also thought double sided tape was OK as long as the plate is securely fixed.

I'll dispute that though. My Elise was shipped with a self-adhesive rear plate, and Lisa's Golf was shipped with self-adhesive plates front and rear.

I think it's the velcro brigade they are after.

I understand the number plate must be permenantly fixed (screws or VHB tape). Vecro is not permenant, so not allowed. IMHO

My front reg plate passed its MOT last week.
Bloke said he passes things like that, because, "you could have changed it when you got home - it was Full Size & Legal when I MOT'd it officer"......

I got pulled a couple of years ago now for my driving and they asked where my plate was, I moaned about the car and said it fell off (which it had) and the cops suggested velcro as a good workaround if it kept coming off...
