I have never driven a 225 shod elise
its either goodrich in 225 or fedral ss595 in 205

Anyone with Maxsports (ie myself included) will be running 205 section rears, although the cut of the tyre may mean the width of contact patch is very similar to 225 section regular treaded tyres.
The main difference with 225's is a small percentage increase in DRY grip. WET grip may be slightly worse, and SNOW / ICE grip will be slightly worse still (though those are generally really bad whatever tyre you use on an Elise!)
If you have the chance of good value 205 rears, I'd just go for them especially given our wet winter ahead!
But I have also run with regular road-treaded 225s for the majority of my time with my Elise (7+ years) and they are fine.
Upshot = you will be fine whatever you do

Bob,
Maxsport fronts are 185 section and I *think* my rears are regulation 205-55. My winter rims have 195-50 section Toyos on the front, and 225-45 on rear.
Believe recommended tyre sizes are:
Front:
185 55 15
195 50 15
Rear:
205 50 16
225 45 16

I am just not too shure what size to go for ie 185 /195 45/50/55 ect
I guess it would be 185 55 15 / 205 50 16
would like to get it right before a suspension set up

I think the Advan is only available in 195 size for the front...in which case if you don't move up to 225 at rear at the same time, you might detect a shift towards oversteer as the front will be grippier than before.
Indeed, not sure if Advans are available in 205 for rear, come to think of it!
I think you'll find most S1 owners running 195 front and 225 rear these days, although it's a point worth considering for specific winter tyre choices. It crossed my mind recently whether a 175 section front would a) fit and b) be available in the S1 rim size. The S2 was deliberately supplied with 175s on the front to dial in a little more understeer I believe. Fitted to an S1, and with 205s on the back, that might make for a good combo for winter handling as the front would become less grippy, relative to the rear, but all round the car would be on the smaller contact patches hence slightly improved grip overall. I think that's the principle used by the rally boys in snow and mud!
Looking forward to be corrected by the Technical Faction though

Errrr i would stay clear, well on past experience anyway, however it was in the CTR, they are a very soft side wall tyre which in a FWD was to be honest fine given they were on the back, but they gave up after 10-12 laps. I guess on the Liz with half the weight, they might make a good budget tyre if they fit!hiscot wrote:I know some one who is using these and he does at least 20 trackdays a year using a saxo weight 900 ? , he has used all sorts from yokos but rates these in dry or wet . road or track
