You can get far better cars for the same money

I think it is severely a case of rose tinted specs
While I agree that there is an element of madness when it comes to the value of old Escorts, the balance and purity of a well sorted RS variant needs to be experienced to be believed and aside from an Elise S1 I would rate my original MK1 Mexico as the best handling car I have owned. The ' less is more' ethos can be applied to old Fords too :thumbsup

One of my rallyist mates came across the same issue (pricey escorts). He ended up buying a chevette, reckoned it was 98% as good as an escort, but 25% the price. Also allowed him to have a bit more of a care free approach to his motorsport (with less at stake in case of an error),.. which if anything, meant he went quicker.

I can see the appeal of the escorts, but do think that their value is a bit too inflated for what you get. ... but I guess that's the classic car market,... just look at the fancy porky beetle prices for example!

New pigs head and axle tubes. Welded up for the six link kit and ready for the rest of it to be built.

No Paul, the shell is originally a 1300 XL IIRC and we are throwing a 2.0 Zetec black top in it driving a type 9 gearbox so I think the Historic boys would frown somewhat :)
Being built as a road car but with a modern twist. Afore mentioned Zetec on TB's, ECU, Type 9 gearbox, ATB diff, disc brakes, power steering and servo for the brakes. Coil over suspension front and rear to round it off.
