Has anyone ever had any problems with the standard OEM wheelbolts? I understand post LE Evoras and V6 Exiges have the stationary taper version now fitted as standard. Ive just had all the alloys refurbished in gloss black again and want to change over to black wheelbolts but it would mean replacing my stationary taper versions with standard bolts as former aren't available in black. Wondering if any real world experiences of problems?
Cheers

Re: Wheelbolts: stationary taper versus standard
I actually have a set of black OEM bolts leftover from the Exige - unfortunately only 16 and I need 20 for the Evora as 5 per wheel - so was going to buy 4 extra from Elise-Shop as they seem to be the only place of the usual outlets that sell them individually. This is their blurb, but I hadn't ever heard of anyone having problems with standard bolts:
The bolts are 10.9 grade with a 60 degree taper which is needed on Elise & Exige S2 as well as Evora & Exige V6 wheels. The 60 degree taper part of the bolt remains stationary in the wheel which will eliminate a lot of issues seen with the standard wheel bolts. Using standard bolts, the taper has to turn in the aluminium wheel which causes trouble when the wheel or the bolt gets dirty. This might result in breaking bolts or bolts running loose. By creating a taper which is stationary in the wheel, you will not turn the taper in the wheel, but you will push it in when tightening and you will pull it out when undoing the wheel. These bolts are standard issue on the later Evora and on the Exige V6. Unfortunately, they're only available in silver.

Are locking ones on the market?

I would avoid locking nuts - they will fail at some point

Re: Wheelbolts: stationary taper versus standard
I've been using the std wheel bolts on my track evora no problem. They are the same bolt as used on BMW's.
If you need to go even faster, just imagine you are me.

Cheers. Ordered up the 4 extra OEM bolts from Elise-Shop on Saturday and they arrived today, so will change all over tomorrow. P&P was more than the bolts!TarmacTerrorist wrote:I've been using the std wheel bolts on my track evora no problem. They are the same bolt as used on BMW's.
