GEO setup

Post by Scotsdave » Thu Aug 04, 2016 8:37 am

Hi Guys,

Where are people going for GEO's now that Willie of CCLM has retired and sold the business?

Do CMC have the equipment or do they farm it out? I have used Falkland Performance Glenrothes in the past but found them a bit pricey they also failed to spot a bent balljoint and just keep adding shims to bring alignment in to spec

Cheers

Davie

Craig lined up a successor for CLCM while at Murray, think it's Redpath Tyres. Think he's now engaged them at CMC too.

I'd just contact him to arrange, TBH.

CMC use Redpath tyres round the corner from them, last time I had a geo done by them I gave them the 135R specs to dial in but just got it back within standard S2 spec as that was all they had on their computer thingy... so I'd be interested to see if anyone local can adjust to specific specs as Willie used to?

That said the standard geo is probably OK for me and my use and they did get everything within spec. I just wanted to see if a little understeer could be dialed out but said understeer should really be drive round-able unless trying to steal a couple of tenths, im not that good lol.... Just need to put the Walshy training to use lol

What tyre sizes are on your fronts, Mark?

Hi Campbell,

I have 175 55 16 AD07 at the minute, I need new wheels to pop up to 215 45 AD08's as my wheels are only 5.5" wide. I love the 111s wheels but they're the same skinny width up front :( You can fit wider forged Yota wheels but the rears need spacers as the offset is different, not sure that's the best idea if used on track? The only after market option that goes straight on is the Team Dynamics TD1.2 but I'm not a fan of them in standard sizes.....
I will probably end up with a set of 111s wheels at some point and new AD07 all round as AD08 don't come in any suitable front sizes. I'm currently on AD07 front and AD08 rear but my rears need changing soon as prob only 3mm left on them so AD07 all round might be my best option, Walshy seemed to think sticky rears and skinny fronts prob not ideal lol. I don't race so it's not that relevant really, I just do the occasional track day. The standard rim will take a 195 50 16, just, I believe, but I can't think of a tyre made in that sized I'd run... I can't justify AD048 (or R888 if they're still made) as it's primarily a road car. My preference would be AD08R all round but I need new wheels to run them

Hence the hope a bit of geo twiddly pokery might help as the tyre situation ain't the best with my current rims

:thumbsup

Hm. Not simple eh.

Well if you can get a 185 or 195 tyre on the front without spending a fortune, that may help.

135R OZ rims enable this I think, too.

I think the 135R rims look awful  and not a massive fan of the team dynamics either.... I like the 240 yota 5 spokes and the original LSS forged ones in silver, not fussy at all lol

Oh and if you make the rear tyres slightly higher pressure than the front, relatively, this can also fine tune under steer. I was once told by a very successful Scottish Sprint & Hillclimb competitor :-)

I use Paul Bowers Motors in Dundee. He has the kit (Hunter Elite gear) and knows how to use it. If you can give him the settings you want, otherwise he'd set it to standard.

My S1 is set to 340R with weight in.

I trust Paul having used him for servicing and repairs on all my cars since 1999.

Mark,
I felt the same as you about s2 wheels wanting wider fronts although I had a 111s and liked the look of them, would have moved to a set of the forged ones (even then you have to watch as a lot are from Elises and not any better than 111s size) but would need to use spacers.

I very nearly bought wheels from this car, i bought his Nitron suspension but was asking too much for the wheels.
They are Compomotive MO and come in proper offset for a Rover, not many about though, were also fitted to the S2 190. I thought they looked ace.

I like the Mo's Ian but like you say they're silly money  Forged seem the same at usually over a grand a set  I'm 80% sure I'll end up with 111s rims with new AD07s all round due to costs
