Red light dash at 6000rpm on VVTi

Post by Ryan » Mon Feb 01, 2016 6:12 pm

Good afternoon all,

Newly fitted a 2bular exhaust to my 111R so naturally took it a run yesterday. Did the appropriate wait until fully up to temp before opening it up. Well into my run the red light on the dash started coming on at just above 6000rpm instead of the usual 8000+. I pulled over and let it sit for 5 mins before continuing and didnt happen again.

Is this an early warning for anything or just a one off?

I remember mine doing that once going over the Dukes Pass which spoilt the run a bit! Switching it off and back on again seemed to fix it and it never happened to me again.

Have read tonight that this light will come on at 6000rpm when the engine is cold (not that anyone should rev to that when cold anyway). Surely just got confused with herself for a sec.

Cheers, nice to know im not the only one to sh*t themselves at small things.

VVTi will not rev when cold.... If it is not reving when warm/hot them there are 2 shall fuse boxes on the bulkhead in the engine bay on the passenger side, check the fuses in there there is one that when blown stops the VVT kicking in... I have a pic somewhere, I'll try and dig it out!

Found it!

My car today - (S2 Exige)
well Up to temperature for over 2 hours - i took it onto a backroad & absolutely rinsed it.
The cam change on mine has been lowered to 5750, - but it cut out at 6500 rpm & them red light came on.
this is interminent - doesnt happen all the time.
is it a fault with the Hangar 111 map ?

Have you tried switching it off and switching it back on again? Seriously, that's what fixed mine
