If the relay clicks but the pump doesn't run then you have a wiring fault between the MFRU and the inertia switch or the MFRU and the fuel pump.
Bingo!

What I don't seem to have is the pinouts of the MFRU - the wiring diagram I've got shows pin numbers, but no plug diagram of the pins on the MFRU plugs or body. Strange, as I've got the plug layouts of pretty much everything else....

There are two connectors on the MFRU

Connector 1 is 6 pin (1.1 - 1.6).

Connector 2 is 8 pin (2.1 - 2.8).

I think the cables you care about are:

The white cable into 1.2. This is ignition live and must be working because the relay is clicking.

The blue with purple stripe into 1.1. This is the switched earth from the ECU. I think this must be OK because the relay is clicking.

The white with purple stripe on 2.4. This should show zero ohms when tested to the cable of the same colour at the inertia switch. Note that it goes via the engine harness connector, another possible source of bad contact.

The brown with silver stripe on 2.1 This should show zero ohms to pin 6 on the immob connector. Note this also goes via the engine harness connector so could be a possible source of problems.

With the MFRU disconnected you should see +12 on the white+purple cable going into 2.4 whenever the ignition is on.

With the MFRU connected and the ignition on and MEMS pin 20 earthed you should see +12v at pin 6 of the immob connector.

TBH, I think you may get to the answer quicker by just disconnecting and inspecting carefully the relevant connectors - engine harness connector, MFRU connector, inertia switch connector.

Cheers,
Robin

Bosh, sorted.

Engine harness connector. Dodgy contact, just needed cleaned.

Cheers Robin, she roars (well rattles loudly) once more 8)

I was particually impressed by the lightweight precision engineered oil catch tank installed "To stop the engine bay getting dirty"
