Mapping VVC engines ...

Post by robin » Sun Oct 01, 2006 8:48 pm

Shug,

When you setup your VVC engine with the emerald, how did you map the cam duration - is yours set on just an RPM profile (RPM vs cam duration) or on throttle+RPM. I assume you are using TPS as load input rather than MAP?

If you did, how did you determine correct cam duration vs. RPM settings?

Robin, I'll be honest - the VVC cam duration and ignition timing is still as set by DVA in his base map. I've only set fuelling myself, by wideband.

It allows you to set it (on a map with limited load sites) by revs & load, but it's currently set just on revs, with load a constant. TPS is the load input, yes.

The only way (I guess) to set up cam timing, would be to do it on a rolling road and check power runs. Must be a nightmare.

Problem is, I only know of one other guy who has a standard VVC and TBs - he's not madly into mapping the thing (although it's a race car) and just picked the engine as a slot-in solution.

OK,

I actually think that it makes sense to map cam duration mostly on RPM; it might make sense to shorten duration on <50% throttle, depending on the hysteresis of the actuator (i.e. how long does it take to respond to control changes), but that would just be to make it more economical on cruise.

When you get a chance can you send me the map file and also the wiring data you have for the 36 pin MEMS plug as used by the emerald - I know that they need to shuffle some pins about but cannot find the relevant data.

Either pm or robin@iddon.no-ip.com

Thanks,
Robin

Oh, Robin, do you have the latest Emerald sofware as well? It's got the additional screens for VVC mapping.

Not sure you can download it yet - I can pop a copy in the email as well.
