calipers

Post by jimbo » Tue Dec 03, 2013 10:42 pm

Just dropped my car off to have the wheels refurbished and powdercoated, satin black. Got me thinking. The brake calipers are currently painted red, but tbh I'm not a fan and they'll only bug me more when the wheels are back.

How difficult would it be to strip the paint and redo them? Can they be powdercoated or professionally done at all, as I want a smooth finish. I'm thinking Porsche, yellow finish and black text, but not sure if the standard calipers themselves actually look good enough for this?

Hammerite smooth appears to be the paint off choice - http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... 8&start=15

Unless you want a perfect finish its a fairly easy re- paint and it's fairly hard wearing so you could probably paint over the existing red. Personally I would keep the red , will look good with black. :thumbsup

Cheers guys, I'll have a look at the various hammerite colours and go from there. Think mark did a pretty comprehensive job when doing them red so might take a while.

It is currently red hammerite smooth that's on them :wink: I'm sure they do yellow too, my passat has hammerite smooth gold calipers now :thumbsup lol

Just not sure how close the hammerite yellow is to lotus yellow. Really want them to match the centre caps or it will just bug me in the long run :?

The colour on the centre caps will fade, gradually ... just to make things worse for your colour matching. Personally I would paint the calipers black.

MMC did mine in yellow, look great but difficult to keep clean.
Thinking of going back to the black.

I painted mine silver with caliper paint, and picked out the letters in black gloss hamerite. Have lasted very well, and IMHO look good with my car. This pic partially shows them;
