Fitted Harnesses to S1

Post by Ferg » Sun Nov 03, 2013 6:54 pm

So after much discussion, research and measuring I committed to the seat mod for the harnesses. Now this is a relatively contravesial modification with people falling into two camps. I was kindly given access to Romtootes elise to have a seat and see how it worked with my height. So after all this checking I finally built up the courage to execute.

I'm very happy with the result. The belts do rise slightly to meet my shoulders but I beleive the deflection isn't enough to cause issues. I took the car out today and can't get over how this has changed the feel of the car, much more connected. It does change how you reverse and deal with junctions but nothing you can't get used to. I chose to leave the belts off for now, but have all the bits so easy to put back on if required.

Pic of the final product.

Thanks guys. :-).
You're kind of to blame Stu. After the PAX ride at Cadwell I realised how much the standard belts let you move around. That and some of the stories in the last year or so of cars turning over for a number of reasons put the harnesses on my target list. Have to say its the first time I've modified a car to be safer! :-D

I did make one small mistake when cutting the leather but it's barely noticeable. If anyone's thinking about this, check out Romtootes guide, oh and don't underestimate how hard it is to accurately and consistently measure on the back of an Elise seat. Trying to find some kind of datum wasn't without its issues. :-)

All ready for OultonPark now! :thumbsup

Nice one Ferg - that's something I'd like to do to the Evora too.

See you at Oulton :thumbsup
