Idle problems: S1 elise

Post by ian974 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 12:16 pm

Having trouble with my car running on a fast idle.
Battery had been disconnected for a couple days while I was going to be doing some work but never managed to get round to it.
Now the car struggles to get started without using throttle and when it warms up the idle increases to around 1500 rpm.
I've tried the throttle reset several times with no success but I'm a bit stumped as i haven't actually done anything which should affect its running.
Between this and an oil leak i'm getting to the end of my tether with it!

Clean the IACV, check for leaky manifold gasket?

Well, I was beginning to think the manifold gasket, but had one more bash wiggling connectors just after posting and it's running spot on again!
An easy fix thankfully, but I'm beginning to blame this car for my hair loss!

If fiddling with the throttle position sensor wiring "fixed" this, then you possibly have a fractured wire in or near the connector - worth getting it checked before it fails completely - and perhaps check and clean out the contacts too.

Cheers,
