He did, but sadly had nothing but trouble with it. The exhaust wasn't supported correctly, cracking the manifold after literally a few hundred miles. Combine that with Colin who did 20,000 miles in one year, leads to a lot of frustration (to all)... basically needs thrown away and started again. ££££££££
I dealt with Chris Tullet directly and was very helpful. He suggested using jigs from previous conversion to manufacture the exhaust but was nervous that it wouldn't fit when fitted onto the car. Simplest solution would be to send the car down and let them get on with it.
How's the car getting on anyway?.
Cheers, Alan.

Scotty, I know you don't like him or the car but it's hardly the point.
Regardless of who owns the car, the exhaust was a disaster and trying to offer Andy some constructive advice.

What ever happened to that manifold? Could it have been beefed up?

It's still on the car (cracked), it was re welded a few times but after literally a few hundred miles it would crack. Colin's looking into getting a replacement made. It's been mucked about with that much that it's really only good for scrap.
The trouble wasn't with the exhaust/manifold but with the way it was mounted, basically the entire weight of the system was on the manifold itself. Most manifolds are tied to the engine in someway to give rigidity, with a flexi on the system to allow the exhaust to move during acceleration/gear changes. Colin's silencer is fixed to the chassis, so when the engine is moving (not that the mounts allow much of that anyway) you can imagine the stress on the manifold.
Don't get me wrong Jim's silencers/standard manifolds are really well made, but think it's just a case of not really being set-up to do this kind of work and I can feel a bit responsible as twisted his arm to do it....

Cheers for the info. I need to get cracking with my conversion again and i'll need a manifold at some point. I want an over the top one so maybe I should contact Colin and see who he is planning on getting to make his. Might be able to get 2 made at the same time and get a bit of a discount.

Simpson race exhausts are also widely recommended for this kind of thing .. Not cheap .. But such is life ..

Wouldn't advise it. Colin needs an interpreter and really shouldn't be let out the house on his own

, you'll come away more confused than you started.
PM'd my number, i can point you in the right direction.

Yep, fair enough but in the interest of fairness Colin's conversion has done over 30,000 miles and the exhaust cracked at 100 miles (and still isn't fixed).
