Hi guys,
Just thinking about getting ready for the new hillclimb season and need to install a harness. I used to have a 6 point in my old car but I want to have children some day and I am heavily wedged in a the elise anyway so am thinking I will go for a 4 point. I hear a lot of chat about submarining but with the wheel extension and my sitting posture (im 6ft 7) I personally feel like I am not going to go when I inevitably run out of talent at Doune. Any experiences that may sway my decision?
The second question is where have people mounted the lap straps? I see the shoulder harness bar is easy enough to install but I was wondering if I have to start drilling holes and put on backing plates under the floor? I am only entering into road car class so the harness isn't an item on the scrutineer's hit list but I want to be safe. The harness will also have obvious benefits at track days and road runs too.
Cheers in advance for any tips,
Murray

Re: Harness Install Help
Lots of opinions on this but I've heard 6 points not needed (or recommended) if ASM.
Do you have seats with harness holes?
Harness bar (mounting dependant on seats) and lap belts attached to the seat should suffice.

Re: Harness Install Help
Mine are onto a harness bar, and the lap belts are onto the normal seat mounting points for standard 3 point seat belt.
I don't think submarining is an issue, as long as the lap belt is done up tightly before the shoulder straps are fitted and tightened.

Plus, if really concerned about submarining, the Schroth ASM stuff (which I'd recommend in a heartbeat, having been fitted to the Shugmobile) is designed to avoid that with a panel in one of the shoulder straps which is designed to deform and take the energy upwards in a big frontal. Don't think it's an issue if the harnesses are properly adjusted as per Dom's chat.

Cheers, ye my seats are standard. I guess I would have to replace with proper race ones if going for more than a 4 point, although not another damn kirkey tin seat! Will have a look at schroth thanks. Dom, I need to come see you anyway to show you the new car.I was saying to hambo maybe a small road run in the campsies would be fun for my first outing??

Re: Harness Install Help
I guess you'll know this but for a standard seat (no harness holes) make sure harness and bar are bolt in not wrap around.
