S1 on the rollers

Post by 2F45T4U » Thu Jan 10, 2013 8:21 pm

I was thinking of putting my car on the dyno this weekend if i'm home. Where do dyno operators normally tie down the car on to? i cant think of much to get a hold of other than the wishbones.

Pics would be nice if anyone has any of it in situ.

cheers,

I don't think you need to tie it down ... unless you've so much power that you need to put weight over the rear axle to get grip on the rollers?

Even at 7,000 RPM in 4th, the stored energy in the wheels isn't enough to move the car very far, even if it does come out of the rollers. The engine will stall the moment the wheels hit the solid ground.

It is possible to strap the front wheels to "ski" like things - a bit like a wheel clamp, but using straps over the wheels.

The people operating the rolling road will know what to do.

Cheers,
Robin

You don't want this to happen;

Take a look at this video on YouTube:

Normally the drive wheels try to ride up on the braked roller and pull its self off. Ive never thought of it before and its lack of tie down points but i'll try this weekend with a couple of wedges at the front wheels and then use the ratchets to pull it back solid. i dont want the rear wheels walking sideways.

cheers.

is this just hooked onto the wishbone to stop it pulling forward?

i only just got my dyno working last weekend and i started mapping my brothers Nova so looking forward to sticking the Emerald on the S1 and having a play with it.
