Gearbox pattern

Post by jimbo » Sat Sep 01, 2012 4:14 pm

At the risk of sounding like a numpty, should reverse on my 111s be simply right and down? Or is there some degree of variation? (there is a reason for asking, honest)...

Cheers

James

I had to get Ali to sort the gear linkages because the lever literally came away in my hand. But im now struggling to get reverse. I have to now go slightly up (as if going towards third) before it will slot right and down into reverse. Does that sound right? The short throw lever had three different positions it could be set to, and he's done it to a different one than when he first fitted it, so could this be the reason?

Been a while since I set up a PG1 but IIRC there is a stop screw under the center consul that sets how far towards the driver the gear lever will come, and hence how easy it is to find reverse as it is the furthest over gear. Worth checking if the screw is in to far and stopping the lever moving across the gate. Failing that it's under trays off and adjusting the linkage on the back underside of the box.

If it was the linkage at the rear that fell apart then it won't be the stop screw - it sounds to me like the linkage behind the gearbox is not quite aligned - it's a bit tricky to do solo - best to adjust with one person on the spanners and the other on the knob :-)
Cheers,
Robin

Agreed Robin, but I read his post as the gear lever came away in his hand.

Jimbo you are just down the road from me if you want PM me and you could pop over and I'll help you set it up.

Mike,

Ali (sls) sorted the gear linkages yesterday when doing all the rest of the work for me. Had the undertray off so said he'd sort it. Waaaay better now.
Thanks anyway
James
