Silicone Hoses

Post by thesurfbus » Thu Sep 13, 2012 10:13 am

I need to purchase a Silicone Hose to connect my Throttle Body to my Air Filter, I require a 45 degree 76mm to 70mm reducer in black, however the only ones I can find have a 4 week lead time, or will be coming from China.
Would I be able to fit a 80mm to 70mm or a 76mm to 67mm hose instead?
How well would a Silicon hose stretch from 67mm to 70mm, or compress from 80mm to 76mm?

Thanks Doug

I would not stretch it, especially at the throttle end, especially if the throttle is plastic, as you'll distort the throttle and cause the spindle/butterfly to bind.

I would guess that fitting an 80mm ID hose over a 76mm OD tube will work, but might not be air tight as it will rut. I assume you do not currently have anything that will fit the 76 OD air filter correctly? If you had an old hose that fitted, you could chop it and use as a spacer to pad out the tube.

Otherwise, I would order the proper hose and wait ...

Cheers,

Its an alloy throttle body, but I will probably just order the correct size, as I don't have anything to use as a spacer.

I've used hose as spacer successfully before, but reckon its a temp fix. You could always ask your local supplier if the have an off cut from a smaller hose?

a 80 mm on a 76mm i think isn’t unreasonable to do IMO.....you are talking 2mm either side of the circle...you could use a piece of cell tape ....which must be a round 2mm and there is your 80 mm.

However for peace of mind is always better to get the correct size……

I've ordered customs sizes and colours from SFS hoses before and they have never taken more than a week http://www.siliconhose.com/
