Elise heater and what has happened to Ali ???

Post by zip » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:05 pm

The heater has just packed up on my 2002 Elise. It had been running on just 3rd speed until last night when it gave up altogether. Ali had already told me that to fx it so that it works on all 3 speeds would need a new resister pack (?) and to get at this he would need to take the front clam off !!!!

However, the heater has I think burnt out - there was a sort of slight buring smell from it last night.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I have just tried to call Ali to ask him about this but when you call his mobile you get a message to say that you have dialled an incorrect number and when you dial his landline, youn get a message to say that it is no longer in service. Has he packed up and gone away ?

If Ali has finished, where is everyone going to now for help with their Elise ? :cheers

I can't offer much advice on the heater but there are contact numbers for Ali somewhere in this thread;

Have a look through it - also explains what is happening with him. :thumbsup

Thanks Dominic. It certainly seems that Ali has given up.

I'm not sure if he has given up - just moved maybe, but there does seem to be some confusion over his contact details.

If you can't get hold of Ali, Murray Motors is a good bet, main dealers are often the top end of the price range but MMC have set their pricing at a competitive level :thumbsup

Be prepared though as resistor pack itself is fairly cheap but it is a clam-off job to replace so it will be a big bill ( wherever does the job) unless you have an aftermarket warranty to fall back on.

Edit to add; Resistor pack is a known fault and there are mods that can be done to ensure the replacement doesn't fail - I think it just consists of drilling some holes so water doesn't collect :roll:

It's a £200 job plus £40 for the resistor pack. The burning smell will be from the resistor pack. The fan motor will be fine I'm sure.

Ali is definitely still about and not given up. His workshop is now in Linthgow afaik. Been speaking to him on the phone for the last week or so about installing a KR1 head on my S1. The voicemail on his phone is for someone else though??? :( and his slscar.co.uk email is out of mailbox space which I'm not sure he knows about so I'll let him know this afternoon when I talk to him

It is possible to do this yourself if you are reasonably handy - or have a handy friend :D
