TRD airbox and issues

Post by kenny » Sun Jun 24, 2012 5:29 pm

Recently swapped over the standard airbox for the TRD version.
Ran fine at Knockhill then on the way home when sitting in traffic the revs tended to bounce about from 500 to 1000. Next day it stuttered and cut out leaving the MIL on. Fault code was Number 2 injector left bank lambda sensor.
Cleared the light and hasn't come back on however car revs still jump about a bit and occasionally cuts out before settling into normal idle. Also seems to be a bit dead and laggy at low revs, runs perfectly when under full throttle.

Any thoughts of what the issue is or just should I just change the box back to standard?

Would the ecu not have to relearn?
Leave it running for 20 min or something?
Or an unrelated IACV problem?

I've not heard of the TRD causing MIL issues. You could try an ECU reset or alternatively just stick to full throttle

Kenny did you blank of the hose that controlled the air flap in the original airbox, may be drawing air into the inlet manifold when trying to open the flap that isn't there now.

:( are i see you are still having problems ken.....i blocked off the outlet fron the induction manifold, however, it may of come off while going around knocky......will have to check for you. failing that, i can reconnect the VCV system back on and then blank the pipe on the other side offthe actuator and leave redundant to see if that works!.......

like i said i did not have a problem when i fitted it to mine and ran for a good 6 months. im sure its not a huge probelem and can be solved.

the question is when can i get a look at it before TT on friday as im at college  this week....hence, the reason i havent been getting excited about TT :( . really want to go....but, have a few hours at strath clyde uni in the morning and wont finish till 11.30 am........ARSE!!

Cheers for your help Leigh.

Strange the way the TRD box didn't seem to like my car but standard box back on and everything back to normal.

:thumbsup happy too that all back to normal........it must be something to do with the VCV that causes the problem.....also, when at idle the TRD Box was making funny resonance noise....which, when fitted to mine, didn’t :scratch .......its possible dom and I didn’t quite get the box to seal properly, as we struggled, who know. The main thing is its all good now.

P.S. like i said on the day,ken... if you want alittle more noise, you can just remove the paper mash snorkle.....plus, as u noticed the paper filter wasnt in great nick, so could just purchase a new one ......

P.S.S since, putting back the VCV on yours i have reattached mine as a precaution and see if there is a difference....so, far, she seems a little happier at idle too
