S1 boot release

Post by Noops » Thu May 24, 2012 8:35 pm

Is the sun affecting my head  , how is the part that catches the cable release has the spring and the big washer attached to the boot lid ?? came home after a quick nip to the shop to find the boot lid and that part detached :? no sign of a nut /fastening inside the actuall boot lid housing :?: . Rooted about in the boot to see if a nut had dropped out but nothing. :?:

The cable release part is working fine

is it not just a threaded insert?

I thought that as well :? , but its as if the insert has dissapeared and left behind a hole nice neat hole the size of a 20p which you cannot thread , I might insert a dowel of some kind and see if that cures it

Looks like it's floated off somewhere?

I'm fairly sure it's a rivnut into the boot lid, then a bolt to hold on the latch - though I might be thinking about the hinge end as I had to drill out and replace 2 of the 3 hinge end ones on mine as the threads were shot.

Many thanks to Stephen C for calling this morning to offer help :thumbsup . After a good look I found the missing part down past the engine sitting on the undertray ready to fall onto the road ..it must have slipped out as I lifted the boot to check.

All working again :thumbsup
