FALC Audi A3 Gearbox end cap

Morning

quick one for any VW Audi types out there.

pal brought his A3 quattro round with a gearbok oil leak. Leak is comming from a black plastic disc/end cap (about 4" in diameter) on the end of the gearbox. Is actually visible through a cut out in the wheelarch liner.

bizzarre thing is that this plastic disc looks to have degraded and gone porous.

anyone got experience of similar?

Porsche 924 Audi boxes have a big 4" rubber coated steel 'paint tin lid' type affair on the back...

maybe it's just corroded mild steel under a rubber coating then.

Sounds like it, they should be available from audi.
They are £9 from Porsche for the 924/944
