Plenum swap

Post by smee » Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:20 am

Can you swap the plastic plenum on the S1 for the alloy s2 one or would it not align or result in lower torque? Is it an entirely pointless excercise or if it's doable would there be any advantage?

Thanks

Cheers answers all questions. Looks good but essentially pointless :D

I wouldn't bet on anyone ever having doe a scientific test from the familiar K series tuning/user fraternity, ie

has anyone done a poer run on an engine with a K16 head with stock 34mm ports, then removed that head to open ports to 36mm and match to VVC type ally plenum refit to same engine in same car and repeat power run on same rollers in approx same atmospheric conditions? I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I might just try it myself now...

however fitting the ally plenum will require removing and stripping the head to open ports to 36mm to make any sense at all.

Btw, the Rover plenums are very poor design and starve no 4 of air badly, a simple modification can be made to improve considerably on this however, I use it on my class A engines.

What are the symptoms and ramifications of this starvation?

And I take it your modification is being kept back for your book...or would you share it here?

They engine cannot run as much ignition advance as it might = less torque

plus emissions are higher than they might be.

A properly designed plenum will give results very close to individual TBs, - imagine having a plenum that gave same results as a set of expensive Jenveys, AND not losing the boot. - cool?
