Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
Another tyre thread...
With Spa next month likely to be cold and wet taking the Exige on A048's is pretty pointless. I've got a spare set of wheels so was thinking about fitting them with wet weather tyres. Looked at the A039's but the price is slightly offputting! Kumho's would be an option but getting the front sizes looks impossible. Are AD08's or R1R's any good or are the A039's worth the extra?

R!R,s are ment to be good, but bald R888, would be more fun.

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
I like the A039's they have lasted longer than the A048's so price is relative, but yes compared to anything else seem expensive. I've used them a few times at Knockhill in the dry and they've stood up well on longer runs. Still not much good on ice as I discovered last weekend
, thankfully just a reminder.
Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
I'm thinking about fitting AO39's next time round, do they have the tread depth of a normal road tyre or somewhere inbetween? I don't think the AD08's are available in the o.e size for the fronts.

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
AD08's if price is an issue, or R-1R's / AO39's if its not
Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
my cup had 39's and they were epic. I was always going to get a set for the 211.
I have a set of rear 38's going very cheap

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
Just read elsewhere that 039's have the same tread depth as 048's so I might not bother with them.

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
I have been thinking the same Neil. Ive got two sets of wheels one with new R888s and the other with a very good set of t1rs. Thinking ill probably be cautious and go for the T1rs.

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
I don't have a new 039 to measure but I don't think that's correct. I'm pretty sure the A039 tread is a more normal 7-8mm compared to the A048 5mm. I run the A039's in spring and autom and stick 48s on during the sunny months. It's hard to judge, but I reckon the 048's do about 3000miles on the rear 5-6k on the front, and 039's 5k on the rear - 8k+ on the front, but I usually change these after 3 years ie before they are worn out.LotusLee wrote:Just read elsewhere that 039's have the same tread depth as 048's so I might not bother with them.
I'd be fairly confident that A039's would last 40+% longer than A048s.
Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
They are indeed 5mm new, just measured.
I have an unworn but possibly slightly dodgy set for sale in S2 size, see ad in classifieds.
Edited to point out they have already been sold.

Re: Cold/Wet Weather Track Tyres
I stand corrected, my perception obviously a bit off. This may explain the difference in wear I've noticed "The 48's have a rating of 60 on the side for tyre softness, the 39's are 120 so should last twice as long in theory"
My current set of 39s have done about 2000miles inc a 2hr track session and have 4mm of tread on the rears - careful driving though.

I'll be round for them next week. You've not had them that long - I had the remnants of your Exige for the best part of 2 yearsScotty C wrote:oops they are 48's ive had them in my garage since Frolic they belong to NeilStu160 wrote:Scotty C wrote:my cup had 39's and they were epic.
