Brake lights now stack

Post by BiggestNizzy » Sun Sep 04, 2011 9:18 am

On my way home yesterday it was pointed out that my brake lights are not working.

So when I got home I checked them, popped the front and checked the switch just incase it had moved and still no Joy I did hear a electrical crack as I pushed the button in and out but time was short and as the car was running fine I decided to put off any repairs.

This morning the stack wasn't working, does everything run off the same circuit ? I don't have a wiring diagram at work to check.

Will check the diagrams when I get to the workshop but it'd probably make sense to quickly check the all fuses. There's not that many of them.

The two problems are probably completely unrelated (other than, you've probably disturbed something that has shorted while checking the switch) so don't get sidetracked by it.

I have a spare brake light switch here if you need one. Although you can pick one up from any Ford dealer for ~£5. I have the part number too.

The switch is only a year old and I have a spare. Thanks anyway.

Have a dig about the contacts at the back of the fuse box in the front compartment. Not exactly the same as my issues with stack and brake lights, but close enough that I'd have a check anyway - bet there's a bunch of green, corroded connectors. Best to replace, but try hosing with WD40 in the first instance to see if it helps.

The brake lights and stack (speedo and rev counter needles, and warning lights too I think) are on the same fuse.

The illumination of the stack is on a different one (which I think is the right hand side light fuse but that's besides the point...)

Mine popped when I was on a Walshy day, so I had to head off to Halfords mid day!
It kept throwing that fuse (for some reason fuse 14 or 15 comes to mind?)

I eventually traced my fault to a brake light bulb, with a small piece of solder making a bad connection and shorting!

Great idea putting those things on 1 fuse eh :s

Arse - This would be the second time I have typed this.

I had a look last night and found fuse 8 (7.5A) works the stack, brake lights , OBD2 (eh?) and the horn tagged onto the actual brake lights are 4 other bulbs but I can't work out what they are.)

As per Chris' suggestion I will pop the bulbs out when I get home and see if that stops it.

Does everyones car have a seatbelt buzzer ? when I bought the car the light was disconnected but I have never had a buzzer

Fewer fuses equals a few grams less weight. Colin Chapman would have been proud.

(sorry not helpful in the slightest but studying and am vvvv bored!!)

No buzzer, just the light on the stack.

It got my hopes up when I saw it on the circuit diagram though I could have pinched it for a door open lights on buzzer.

You win a prize

Stack power drops out occasionally and my rev counter run's out ut a quick reset fix's that.

Hopefully I will get a chance to look at it over the weekend.
