Has anyone here used transmission solutions? They will build me a gearbox with bRbp 1st to 4th and a standard 5th gear for cruising with uprated bearings for £400. It sounds like what I want, they sponsor a car in the LoT series. How can I be sure that the ratios are the ones I requested before fitting it to the car? They seem legit but just thought I would run this past you guys first. Thanks

I could build you one with B gearset 1st to 4th and standard 5th and and a TorSen LSD for £400.

Oh, and Transmissions Solutions are well thought of by all accounts.

Sounds feasable, you would need the B4BP (S2 CR) 1st to 4th gears and the C6BP (Std S1) 5th gear and 3.9 final drive ratio to give you the tall 5th on S1 with 16" wheels.

With the steel caged uprated bearings? That's a good price, if so.

Hi Dan,

What would the final drive ratio be?

What donor box would you need to start with?

Could you take a G6 box and convert it into a G4 box with the 0.765 5th from the C box? [no lsd]

Cheers,
Robin

Definitely horses for courses fitting a C/R box in a standard S1. You have to look at both points of view, Robin prefers the lower revs in 5th when cruising on a long run, i.e. FF when you are not on track, whereas I am with Shug in that for my usage of fast road and track, 4th and 5th were just too long for me, holding onto 4th then into 5th and acceleration almost ran out. Although I had to do countless thousands of miles on M/W's to get to the fun part I got used to 90mph at 4500 and just put ear plugs in when the roof was up.

However you are unlikely to pack in as many track or road miles as I have, so it really comes down to usage. For me on both N1's, first upgrades done immediately were C/R box, Nitrons and good tyres. I now have six speeds, but 6th is even lower than before, 4000rpm is only 76mph.

For the std-ish K, I still feel that a 6 spd box where the first 5 are as-per the "common" close ratio set, and then 6th is at or just above the standard box's 5th, would be great.

Costabomb due to low volume etc...however a 6-spd where top is 4krpm at 70-ish is just not in the park for me.

But I'm an old git these days...

A six speed would be great (although a cvt is my prefered option)

I agree that 6 speeds would be ideal but given the cost, a compromised 4/5 boundary would be the best trade off, like Dan was suggesting.

There never seems to be enough. I would love a 7th or overdrive 6th, the S/C Honda would pull it no problem, I am in 6th most of the time on the road on all but junctions and roundabouts, so 25mph/1000rpm would improve consumption and make for great cruising.

My TR4 had overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th selected with a flick of a lever, I suppose there is a reason why it can no longer be used.
