160 Head + Cams....
160 Head + Cams....
Hypothetically...
If 'one' was to stick a 160 head and Cams on top of a standard bottom end, would the ECU need changed from the standard one?
If so, would it just be a case of buying an ECU from a 160 and simply plugging it in... or is there more to it than that?
Cheers!
Dave.

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
Depends exactly what head and cams you're talking about Dave.
If it's a head and cams from an actual Sport160 then there's no way the standard ECU will run it. If it's a ported head and some Piper 270s or 633s, if you timed the cams carefully you could run them on a standard ECU.
If it's a proper Sport160 setup it would run with a Sport160 ECU (GEMS) but it will run like a bag of sh1t. They all do.

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
I may need to go back to the drawing board with this one.....
Re: 160 Head + Cams....
There was a pukka Sport160 ECU on eBay last week sold for only £23.
I wish I'd bought it to be honest.

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
There's a 160 ECU on SELOC just now.
Probably best for me if someone else buys it...

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
This really isn't the route I would take.
The standard ECU plus KR1 head + mild cams gives you more usable car with very nearly the same headline power figure (and so will whatever the equivalent from DVA is).
If you are going to use a Sport160 head I would then just leave in the standard cams from your car (assuming your car currently has standard cams
).
The Sport160 cams can be reground to make them a little milder, which is another option (not sure if that applies to both inlet and exhaust though).
I'm assuming your existing head is standard and OK?
Cheers,
Robin

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
I've no set plans just now tbh.
Just thinking if I take the head off... might be worth considering a wee upgrade before bolting it all back together again.

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
Put a 190hp head on Dave, got one going spare and a shame that it is not being used, T/B's and Emerald, instant dicking.

Re: 160 Head + Cams....
Take your own advice, Dave. Get back to the drawing board. The pukka Sport 160 special edition may well now be something special and sought after but the engine and gearbox setup themselves are flawed, IMHO.
If for some reason your head is coming off anyway, then a Kiwirog item would suit you nicely I'm fairly certain.
