VVC Manifold...

Post by Rich H » Tue Aug 22, 2006 8:29 pm

Gents, I am having second thoughts about the VVC manifold... I am really missing the low down torque and it sems that the VVC manifold is the prime suspect. I'm goign to swap it out for the old plastic one and see what happens..

I may have gained 20 bhp shug but only between 5500 and 6000 rpm... not much cop for my useless driving I'm afraid!

Rich,

Why don't you de-flash the plastic one before you refit it.

If you go a bit nuts and break though the plastic I have a spare

Is that before or after you've fitted the 4:1 exhaust? Only it's supposed to compensate a little for the loss in low end torque from opening up the ports, but I know that Bob van Melzen found years back that unless you used the variant without the flexi, the primaries weren't long enough to make that happen - might be different in your case with your manifold, of course.

Switching back to the plastic plenum probably will work I expect, at the expense of a few BHP at full throttle/full speed.

Cheers,
Robin

What you're saying basically is that you're too sh*t to use the engine you've spent hours fettling......

Dear-o boy, get some training ;)

Oh and the plenum will account for some loss of torque, yes - but the cams will also do that. You don't get owt for nowt - the cams give you more power by shifting the torque curve further up the rev range.....

Also - combine a decent sized TB with the 4-2-1 and it may be very much better... Certainly, now that you've fettled the ports to match the VVC plenum, I honestly think it'll do more good than harm....

By all means, whack the plastic one back on, just to prove me right ;)

I'm going to fit the 4-2-1 after dinner if the weather holds (Or not, skin is waterproof  ) and have a blast about like that for a while. See how that goes.

Basically I think it has exceeded my ability to drive it by too big a margin and I'm struggling to keep up... I know I need some more training and I'll learn eventually but I would rather admit that I'm a bit of a poof  and enjoy learning more slowly

Don't get me wrong it'll go back on eventually, if the head lasts that long....
