Geometry / wheel alignment

Post by Tommy Twist » Tue May 03, 2011 6:25 pm

Hi folks,

I should take delivery of my first Lotus next week:

Can anyone recommend a good place in Stirlingshire or Edinburgh to take the car for four-wheel laser alignment?

Murray Lotus are quite handy for me, has anyone used them for geo setup?

Thanks :cheers

Willie at CCLM is the guy that most of us use down there, he will do a good job.

Yeah Willie at CLCM is the man to use. Right around the corner from Murray Lotus in Edinburgh.

if you think it needs done, I'd have been negotiating with the dealer and getting them to do it though. Personally, i'd consider having a look at the tyres and see if they look equally worn etc (ie, see if it needs a geo) then drive it form a couple of months to get used to it before getting it done. That way you can get it set up for you, in a way that you'll like. If it's standard (or close to) I believe they are usually set up to be 'safe' tending towards under steer like a fwd car.

Unless anything has changed, Murray's will use CLCM to do the geo on a car booked into them, I believe. That said, if you book it in via Murray's and you get the SE discount then it may cost you no more/no less than booking it in direct with Willie - so if you have other work to be done at the same time you are probably as well to just book it in for everything at the same time.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Chris - the tyres that are on the car are fairly new, so it's hard to tell how they're likely to wear under the current geometry. Also for me it's peace of mind to know that everything's been straightened after buying a used car, especially given the awful state of the roads!

Useful to know about CLCM - I'll try to have the car taken along there next time it's in MMC.

Is Willie a good man for tyres too? (come the time).

:cheers

He will fit them for you but is unlikely to stock the tyres you want. If you want the proper Lotus tyre, MMC is obviously conveniently placed for buying them, SE discount too. However, if you're looking for non-Lotus tyres then buying them from the internet, e.g. camskill or mytyres is the way ahead.

Cheers,
Robin

You can generally get them delivered direct to Willie provided you warn him they are coming and book your slot with a week or two's notice.

Nice car Tommy, btw ... I am thinking orange for my next one too :thumbsup

Thanks Campbell, although I have to admit that's not my Elise... I've yet to take a picture of mine

A closer to home alternative just for the Geo is John at progrip over in Larbert now...
Search for progrip on this and there's loads of praise for him

Really nice guy who'll take you through what he's doing. He knows his way round an Elise and the scooby guys use him alot.
